On Monday, October 18, 2021 I had the particular pleasure of speaking with Fordham Professor Keri Walsh’s “Modern Irish Literature” course on the topic of “What is Ocean Studies?”. For this special event, doctoral student Stephen Fragano, whose research focuses on 18th and 19th C. fishermen, and I spoke with Prof. Walsh’s students on what the current field of ocean studies looks like, some important references within this developing field, and how thinking about ocean studies could be productive for Modern Irish literature, particularly J. M. Synge’s play Riders to the Sea. This really was a great conversation, and Prof. Walsh and her students have been kind enough to share the recording, included above.
